About Us
Asiliz was founded in 2021 as a Canadian-owned and operated business, with a simple intention, to create something meaningful.
What began as a personal journey to design and create my own baskets led me somewhere unexpected. In the process, I discovered a group of incredibly skilled women artisans in Kenya, whose work carried far more depth, beauty, and history than anything I could create on my own.
Instead of reinventing what already existed, I chose to partner with them, to honor their craft and share it more widely.
Each piece is handcrafted using traditional techniques passed down through generations. From the farmers who grow the sisal, to the artisans who weave each basket, to the makers who carefully finish pieces with leather, every step is rooted in care, skill, and intention.
This work supports not just one artisan, but an entire community.
In many of these communities, especially for women who are widowed or supporting families on their own, access to steady income can be limited. Through this work, they are able to provide for their families, build independence, and create a more stable future.
At Asiliz, we are proud to be part of that ecosystem — helping create opportunities that reach beyond a single product and into the lives of many.
Each piece is more than just handcrafted.
It is a story, a livelihood, and a connection that continues across generations.
